In 1950, A.T. and Gladiola Dierlam relocated their family from Calhoun County to Victoria. At the time, A.T. operated a custom hay baling business that served many of the ranchers throughout the Coastal Bend of Texas. A.T. and Gladiola had 6 children—Wayne, Mark, Larry, Margaret, Stanley, and David. A.T. passed away unexpectedly in 1965. Gladiola along with her children, aged 23 to 7 took over the hay business. The family acquired the old Goldman Gin property which they had been using for hay storage and in 1969 added a feed store to their business. From the 70s through the 2010s, the principal owners were Gladiola, Wayne, Mark, Larry and David. Stanley, opened his own store in Port Lavaca in the 1970s and operates it to this day. Margaret was a school teacher in Victoria for her entire career. Gladiola Dierlam passed away in 2017 at the age of 96 and Wayne, Larry and David assumed ownership. Sadly, David passed in 2019 after a brain tumor diagnosis. Wayne and Larry now own and operate the business which has been serving customers in Victoria and surrounding counties since 1969. The business has entered its 3rd generation with Larry’s daughter Lacey as the store’s manager. The Dierlam Family has always prided itself on providing the products and service that big box stores cannot match. After 51 years on Water Street, they know what you need and how to get it.
