Cecil & Katherine Williams started Williams Nursery (Now Brownswood Nursery) in the late 1960’s in their backyard off of Folly Road on James Island. Mr. Williams’ middle daughter Terre Stevens joined them there and together began to sell & grow a wide range of plants. They sold fruit trees & grew a large line of Azaleas. As demand grew for their quality plants, they decided they needed more room. So together in 1978, Brownswood Nursery™ was established at 1290 Brownswood Road, Johns Island. In the 90's Wyatt Stevens (Terre's Husband) began the landscape maintenance & installation division. Over 20 years later Terre’s eldest son Ryan Watkins joins the team as the third generation in this successful family business. January 2015 after graduating from Clemson University with a horticulture degree, Drew Stevens, joins the team and now serves as the installation manager. Brownswood Nursery™ is one of Charleston's largest & oldest landscape grower, designer, & installer. Our nursery is open for both residential and wholesale customers. Brownswood has developed approximately 20 acres of its sprawling acreage for the Garden Center, Growing Operation, Design Studio, & Installation Division. This large parcel allows many of the plants we sell to be grown right here at our nursery on Johns Island (Charleston). We offer everything from 4 inch annuals to 15 foot Live Oaks. Our desire is to provide Charleston residents with beautiful plants at reasonable prices. Our Certified Nursery Professionals are trained to help you select the perfect addition to your garden and advise you on how to best care for it during and after planting. Although we are centrally located between Downtown Charleston, James Island, West Ashley, Kiawah Island, Seabrook Island, & Wadmalaw Island, we have many customers from Ravenel, Hollywood, Mount Pleasant, North Charleston, Summerville, Moncks Corner, and beyond that believe our nursery is worth the drive.
